As of January 2025, 154 operators in 63 countries and regions around the world have invested in trials, planning or actual deployment of public 5G SA networks. This accounts for 24.7% of the total number of operators investing in any form of 5G projects.
As the global demand for faster and more reliable wireless communications grows, the deployment of 5G independent networking technology is becoming mainstream.

According to the latest data released by GSA:

Development status
In terms of regional distribution, Europe, the Middle East and Africa lead in commercial 5G SA and have the largest number of operators. In particular, the region has experienced significant growth between 2022 and 2024. In contrast, although the Asia-Pacific region has taken the lead in the adoption of 5G SA in the early stage, the growth rate has slowed slightly. However, these two regions are still the main driving force for the development of global 5G SA.
It is worth noting that in Latin America, despite a late start, 9 operators in 5 countries have begun to explore the possibility of 5G SA, showing the global appeal and potential of this technology.
In addition, the private network field has also witnessed the gradual penetration of 5G SA technology. As of the latest statistics, more than 82 organizations have begun to use 5G SA technology to build their own private mobile networks. These organizations cover a variety of industries such as manufacturing, academia, and research institutions, reflecting the wide application prospects of 5G SA technology in different fields.
Looking ahead, the deployment of 5G SA networks is expected to continue to maintain a rapid growth trend. As more countries and regions recognize the technical advantages brought by 5G SA - such as lower latency, higher device density support, and flexible service creation capabilities - more operators will join the ranks. In particular, those markets that have not yet fully invested in 5G construction may accelerate their 5G SA development pace to narrow the gap with other pioneers.
At the same time, considering the ability of 5G SA to provide customized services for various vertical industries. It is expected that in the next few years, not only public network operators will increase their investment in 5G SA. Enterprises will also participate more actively in the construction and application of dedicated 5G SA networks. This will further promote the development of 5G SA technology and lay a solid foundation for its global popularity.
In short, as technology and the market continue to mature, 5G SA will undoubtedly play an increasingly important role in the future communication landscape, bringing unprecedented innovation opportunities and development space to enterprises and society.
