A new market research report says that shipments of 800G coherent pluggable modules will exceed 200,000 units in 2026. This increase is due to hyperscale AI architectures. Revenue from these shipments will exceed $1 billion.
Cloud service providers like Meta are using 800ZR+ technology for long-distance connections between data centers. The market for IP-over-DWDM architecture is expected to reach $2 billion by 2025.

In its latest report, "800ZR/ZR+ Forecast Update (Q2 2025)," the market research firm raised its 2026 shipment forecast. They now expect over 200,000 units of 800ZR and 800ZR+ coherent pluggable modules to be shipped. This revision reflects the most recent market data.
The surge in demand is fueled by advancements in AI infrastructure design. With power and space limitations, AI clusters are progressively being deployed across multiple sites.
The new forecast shows how quickly big tech companies are using high-performance optical parts. A leading analyst at the market research firm made this statement.
“Rising demand for high-speed, long-haul links between AI clusters is fueling rapid growth in the 800ZR+ market.”
“Although this growth is largely incremental, other interface types will be affected. This will occur once pluggable 800G reaches performance levels comparable to embedded solutions.”
Other important findings from the report include that pluggable coherent optical parts are changing network design. This change enables routers and switches to utilize DWDM optical modules directly. The market, valued at $2 billion in 2025, is projected to approach $5 billion by 2029.
Cloud service providers are expected to represent more than 80% of deployments. While traditional optical hardware continues to be phased out.
The 2029 projection for embedded 800G and 1.2T+ optical components has been revised downward because of slower adoption. This is also influenced by application overlap with 800ZR+ modules.
