According to a forecast, in the next five years, the global optical transmission equipment market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3%, reaching US$17 billion by 2027, and the cumulative revenue will reach US$81 billion during the five-year period.

According to a recent forecast report by a certain group, in the next five years, the global demand for optical transmission equipment is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3%, reaching US$17 billion by 2027. Cumulative revenue over the five-year period is projected to be $81 billion.

The vice president of this group said: "Before entering a stable growth cycle of 3%, the annual growth rate of the market will fluctuate in the short term. Due to the economic background, there is still a lot of uncertainty in the market this year. Economists Recessions are forecast to be likely in North America and Europe. At the same time, however, most optical system equipment makers are reporting record order backlogs heading into 2023. We expect these backlogs to increase when component supplies improve this year. Most of that could be converted into revenue."

Additional highlights from the Optical Transport Five-Year Forecast report:
1. The global optical transport market is expected to grow in 2023 due to improved component supply.
2. Due to the increasing use of IP-over-DWDM, the growth rate of the WDM metro market is expected to be lower than the historical average in the next five years.
3. In the next five years, the DWDM long-distance market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5%.
4. Shipments of coherent wavelengths for WDM systems are expected to grow at a CAGR of 11%, reaching 1.2 million annually by 2027.
5. Installations of 400Gbps wavelengths will dominate during the forecast period.
