AI applications have become the absolute dominant force in the Ethernet optical module market. Sales quadrupled from 2023 to 2025 after doubling in 2024. However, insufficient indium phosphide (IP) chip capacity has limited growth.
Recently, a market research firm released its "September 2025 Ethernet Optical Module Report." The report shows that sales of Ethernet optical transceivers doubled in 2024. With adequate IPP chip supply capacity, the market size could have reached twice its 2024 level by 2025.

A shortage of EML andHowever, the market growth is expected to be constrained by shortages of EML and CW laser chips until late 2026. CW laser chips, however, is anticipated to impede market expansion through the end of 2026.
By then, demand may also slow moderately, helping to restore supply chain balance. Although forecasts indicate a soft landing, history shows that supply chain balance is often achieved through market corrections. The earlier such corrections occur, the less painful the resulting upheaval.

The Impact of AI on the Ethernet Transceiver Market:
This forecast includes timing transceivers, LPO, and CPO technologies for both scale-out and scale-up networks. AI application demand will remain the market's driving force from 2026 to 2030, surpassing initial projections. From this perspective, AI has completely taken control of market trends.

Another interpretation of the title question is whether AI has developed self-awareness. It also asks whether AI has begun to manipulate human decision-making. This might explain the surge in investment. If this hasn't happened yet, can we detect it when it does, and it's better to consider this sooner rather than later.

Another key question is: is investment driven by sound financial planning or by a fear of missing out? We need to calmly examine the current situation.

Are there other proven profitable AI business models? The answer is not affirmative. Most applications are still in the early stages of development, and success is not guaranteed. Investors' patience will inevitably run out, triggering fund withdrawals—it's merely a timing issue."

A truly self-aware AI might be influencing decisions today. If this is not happening, investor behavior in emerging tech looks very familiar. It resembles the dot-com bubble and the telecom bubble from 25 years ago. This suggests that market cycles in tech may not have changed much.

This report studies how data traffic growth and data center architecture changes affect the Ethernet optical transceiver market. ‌It uses detailed historical Ethernet module shipment data and market research for analysis. The report specifically looks at high-speed modules used in AI clusters. This helps understand market trends and future demand.

The report predicts product sales from 2025 to 2030. It covers over 50 product categories, including 100GbE, 200GbE, 400G, 800G, 1.6T, and 3.2T timing transceivers, LPO/LRO, and CPO. These products are categorized based on transmission distance and form factor. This helps track market trends for different Ethernet technologies.

The report includes historical shipment data. It also provides sales and price forecasts for three market segments: cloud data centers, enterprise networks, and telecom networks. This helps analyze trends and future demand in these key areas.
