According to certain statistics, the revenue growth rate of listed companies in optical communications has slowed down compared with last year. In 2022, the overall revenue of more than 100 domestic and foreign listed companies will reach US$2.916116 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.79%.

2022 is a year of challenges and opportunities. In 2022, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine will break out, and the epidemic prevention policies and monetary policies of various countries will continue to adjust. The cost of raw materials and transportation will continue to rise, which will increase the challenges for optical communication companies in this year. At the same time, the accelerated construction of global data centers, the deployment and upgrade of optical fiber, and the accelerated digitalization process have brought opportunities to optical communication companies this year.

Recently, listed optical communication companies have announced their 2022 performance reports. According to a statistical analysis, the revenue growth rate of listed optical communication companies has slowed down compared with last year. In 2022, the overall revenue of the communication industry of more than 100 listed companies at home and abroad will be 2916.116 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 2.79%. The gross profit margin is 52.24%, and the net profit margin is 14.34%.

In terms of segments, driven by the digital economy and metaverse in 2022, the capex of North American cloud vendors will continue to improve year-on-year and month-on-month, and the capital expenditure of Internet operators will increase, actively promoting the construction of cloud and data centers. According to a certain statistics, the total revenue of Internet content providers in 2022 will be US$1,769.761 billion, an increase of 3.55% compared to US$1,709.109 billion in 2021. In 2022, the gross profit margin of Internet content providers will be 50.4%, an increase of 0.23 percentage points over the same period last year; the net profit margin will be 16.94%, a decrease of 4.33 percentage points compared with the same period last year.

In 2022, the total revenue of telecom operators according to a certain statistics will be US$693.496 billion, a decrease of 3.92% compared with US$721.818 billion in the same period last year; the gross profit margin of telecom operators is 64.6%, and the net profit margin is 8.74%, a year-on-year decrease of 3.25% percentage point. In terms of 5G user development, according to a certain data, as of December 2022, 515 operators in 155 countries/regions around the world are investing in 5G networks in the form of testing, piloting, obtaining licenses, planning and actual deployment. In 2022, the downward pressure on the capital expenditure of operators will be obvious, the challenges faced by operators will intensify, and the deployment of 5G and broadband networks will slow down compared with before.

In 2022, according to a certain statistics, the total revenue of system equipment manufacturers will be 236.929 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 1.44%. Gross profit margin was 43.26%, down 10 percentage points year-on-year; net profit margin was 10.36%, down 4.9 percentage points year-on-year. Strong market demand and backlog of orders in 2022 will cause a small increase in the overall revenue of equipment manufacturers. However, due to supply chain constraints, the cost will rise, which will have a certain impact on the profitability of equipment manufacturers.

In 2022, according to a certain statistical data, test equipment manufacturers will perform better overall. Its total revenue was US$10.012 billion, compared with US$9.855 billion in the same period last year, a year-on-year increase of 1.59%; gross profit margin was 55.34%; net profit margin was 14.73%, a year-on-year increase of 0.71%.

In terms of device manufacturers, the total revenue of active device manufacturers in 2022 is 11.577 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 4.85% compared with the 11.042 billion U.S. dollars in the same period last year. The ratio fell by 1.26%; the net profit margin was 7.21%. Analysis predicts that in recent years, global data center construction, 5G deployment and next-generation PON upgrades will continue to drive the growth of the optical module market, and optical active devices, as one of the components of optical modules, will continue to expand with the growth of the optical module market. . The total revenue of passive component manufacturers in 2022 will be US$9.372 billion, compared with US$8.896 billion in the same period last year, a year-on-year increase of 5.35%; the gross profit rate is 34.08%; the net profit rate is 7.56%. The revenue growth of device manufacturers is mainly due to the strong demand in the global communication infrastructure construction and broadband access market in 2022.

As for component material suppliers, according to certain statistical data, the total revenue of component material suppliers in 2022 will be US$1.088 billion, down 11.77% from US$1.233 billion in the same period last year, with a gross profit margin of 43.98% and a net profit margin of 28.75%. The decline in the performance of component material manufacturers is mainly due to the decline in the performance of the Tri-Ring Group. The Tri-Ring Group stated that its revenue in 2022 will decline by 17.19% year-on-year. The overall demand of the industry has slowed down, which is superimposed on the impact of destocking of downstream manufacturers.

In terms of optical fiber and cable manufacturers, the total revenue of optical fiber and cable manufacturers in 2022 will reach 96.904 billion yuan, an increase of 18.75% over the US$81.603 billion in the same period last year; the gross profit rate is 22.52%. Net margin was 8.9%. In 2022, under the influence of new infrastructure such as 5G, F5G and East-to-West calculations in China, the domestic demand for optical fiber and cable will increase, and the scale and price of centralized procurement will rebound significantly, which will drive the growth of the performance and profitability of optical fiber and cable manufacturers.
