In the third quarter of 2024, AI accelerator revenue soared 130%. U.S. cloud service providers will use more than 5 million GPUs and custom accelerators for AI training in 2024.
A new report shows that the accelerator market grew by 130% in revenue in the third quarter of 2024. This market includes graphics processing units (GPUs) and custom accelerators.

The group's senior research director said:
"As hyperscale service providers compete to build infrastructure for large-scale language model training and reasoning."
"The demand for accelerators has shown an astonishing growth rate."
"Along with commercial GPUs, U.S. hyperscale service providers are using more custom accelerators for AI infrastructure."
"As the scale of large language models continues to increase, the demand for larger computing clusters has also increased."
"This has prompted hyperscale service providers to accelerate the adoption of custom accelerators."
In addition, the quarterly report also highlighted the following points:
In 2024, the server and storage system component market is expected to grow by more than 100%. Among them, accelerators, memory and storage drives are key factors driving growth.
Revenue from intelligent network interface cards and data processing units nearly doubled in the third quarter of 2024. This is driven by the strong deployment of network cards in AI clusters.
Growth is expected to slow somewhat but still maintain healthy double-digit growth by 2025. The beginning of the year may lead to slower growth in general server components due to inventory adjustments.
The group released a five-year forecast for the accelerator market in August 2024.
The report stated that there has been a rise in spending on AI-related data centers. This increase comes from large cloud service providers and businesses.
Accelerator revenue is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 38% over the next five years.
